Wanderlust – “A strong desire to travel”. We’re all driven by it at some point in our lives. To up and leave the humdrum of life and travel the untravelled, creating a million memories we never thought we could. I’ve been experiencing wanderlust for the best part of a year now as I realised how little of the world I’ve actually seen. I think to travel is one of the most important things in life. We weren’t put on this earth to live tiny lives, we are supposed to fill it out with adventures that take our breath away, experience different cultures and learn as much as possible about this beautiful planet on which we live. One of my New Year’s resolutions this year was to create a bucket list of places that I want to visit. Of course, there are far more places on said list than just these eight, but I’ve just picked a few to share with you all! I can almost smell the suncream… Or the gingerbread latte. Depending on where I’m going. Here are my 8 places I will visit before I die. Fingers crossed I’m not knocked down by a bus tomorrow…
So let’s start with the destination that I have actually planned and booked to visit this year… Viva Las Vegas! You can’t meet someone who has been to Vegas and said they didn’t like it. It’s just impossible. I actually dare you to meet someone who can say that. DOUBLE DARE YOU. Anyway, YES my friends and I have booked to visit Veygs in the first week on June this year. Excited to “make it rain” is an understatement… The thought of having just over 4 months to get a Vegas-acceptable body is less than appeasing.
It’s probably not the greatest advert for the country, but ever since seeing The Mummy I’ve always been intigued by the pyramids of Egypt. With the Great Pyramid of Giza being one of The Great Wonders of The World, I’ve simply got to get a selfie in front of it. You know the kind I’m talking about… Where you pretend to be towering over the top of it and pinching the top of the point between your forefingers? Hands up who’s guilty? (And also tweet me them!)
Ah Machu Picchu, Peru. Looks utterly terrifying yet mesmerising at the same time. Also a bit like a board game. Voted one of the New 7 Wonders Of The World, this Inca site is totally worthy of a visit. Considering Inormally get out of breath walking up the stairs, I’m gunna have to geta bit of training in before venturing here. But mark my word, it’s gunna happen.
As much as I love a warm climate, I love the cold too. Anyone who knows me personally knows how obsessed I am with Christmas, so it only makes sense to go and visit the big man himself! Snow is one of my favourite things in the world. It’s just a shame I live in a part of the world where I rarely see it, but see plenty of it’s cousin ‘Rain’. I long to go and stay in one of these igloo hotels, lay down and watch the stars shine in a snowy sky, sipping a gingerbread latte. One day.
Back to the beach, Thailand should be on every traveller’s bucket list. Crystal clear waters, coconut cocktails, white sand beaches… It’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions. Attending a Full Moon Party on New Year’s Eve in a bikini is something I have always promised I would do, and that promise still stands.
…yes I know I have used a sideways ‘U’ in replace of a ‘C’. Improvisation at its best! How stunning is the above image thought of the Northern Lights in Iceland? It looks like something out of a sci-fi novel and I still have no idea how they’re created. The idea of bathing in an Icelandic hot spring with this looking down on us has earnt a worthy place on my list.
Probably one of the most instagrammable islands in the world and also one that I must visit. Immediately. It’s not just the crystal blue seas that appeal to me, but the mountain ranges and Chamarel Falls (google it!). The wildlife of this little island looks more colourful than a Dulux paint chart, and I dream of snorkelling the underwater coral reefs. One way ticket please.
I thought I’d leave the place I most want to visit until last, and that is the Maldives. If I ever get married, the Maldives will be my honeymoon destination. WILL! I wake up most mornings wishing I had woken up in one of those little huts instead, with the crystal-as-crystal-can-be ocean as your back garden accompanied by your personal hot tub. I think I’d struggle to leave here. So maybe it’s best I just apply for permanent residency now.
So there are 8 places I will visit before I die. I need to get more stamps in the passport and 2016 is the year I’m going to kickstart it all off. First stop, VEGAS! What countries are on your travel bucket list?
