With my Vegas holiday looming and still feeling that I look like a boiled egg, I’ve been hitting the gym hard. With a capital H. Unfortunately more sweat means more spots, so I’ve had to keep on top of my skin regime more than ever to make sure I don’t end up with blemishes the size of Mount Everest. In this post I will share how I get spot free skin and my current favourite skincare products. Grab a cup of green tea and I shall reveal all! (Yes, I’m fully on that health and fitness band wagon. Before it would definitely have been a hot chocolate. With extra chocolate. Mayve some whipped cream. Oh and of course marshmallows. Mmm marshmallows).
Drink Lots Of Water
So this one probably comes as no surprise. It’s the advice we all love to ignore, but it’s also the simplest way to achieve spot free skin. Drinking water, and lots of it, will flush out toxins from your skin and keep it glowing from within. We’re very qucik to go out and buy the latest spot-zapping cream or serum, but forget that we also have to treat it internally. Aim to drink at LEAST 8 glasses a day. It’s really not that hard. Luckily I’ve always loved water so have no trouble drinking it, but you can add a sugar free-cordial to your pints if you’re having trouble getting it down.
Shower Straight After Exercise
Personally, I’m not a fan of showering at the gym. I much prefer the comfort of my home, surrounded with all my lotions and potions. However it’s important that after exercising, you shower as quickly as possible to wash the excess sweat and dirt from your body. The longer you leave it, the deeper the sweat and dirt will work it’s way into your pores and develop spots. Get steaming as soon as possible!
You can’t polish a turd… As the old saying goes. And it’s quite accurate really. With your skin you need to buff away the dead skin cells to have the cleanest looking skin possible. Exfoliating will prevent build up and clogging in your pores that will lead to spots, so get scrubbing! I love Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I also absolutely SWEAR by my Clarisonic that buffs away more skin and removes more makeup than you can manually. It is essentially an electronic facial brush that will leave your skin feeling smoother than ever before. A great investment that I now cannot live without.
Use A Face Mask Twice A Week
I am OBSSESSED with face masks. They are so refreshing and rejuvenating, my skin feels like new whenever I use one. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m a fan of pretty much all of the Lush face mask range. I’ve yet to find one that I don’t like, so I highly recommend any of them and they’re incredibly affordable. They contain completely natural ingredients as well. Other face masks you’ll find in my skincare drawer are Caudalie Glycolic Peel Mask and Guerlain Abeille Royale Honey Mask.
Sleep With Sudocrem On
This one really is one of my best kept secrets… Well perhaps not so much anymore. Whenever my skin is feeling particularly dry, sallow or just looks downright disgusting, I smother it with a generous layer of Sudocrem and sleep in it. Probably one best suited to the single gals as its not the sexiest sight in the world. The things we do for beauty! Wash it off in the morning to reveal healthier looking and feeling skin. I swear there is nothing that Sudocrem cannot do. Nothing.
Smother In Coconut Oil
Probably not best for those who already have oily skin, so maybe give this one a miss unless you’re on the more dehydrated side. Once a week I will leave coconut oil in my hair overnight and wash off in the morning to keep it looking as health as possible. With whatever is left on my hands, I will rub all over my face and let it soak in overnight. Like Sudocrem, coconut oil is pretty much a godsend. Your skin will love it and it will keep all nasties at bay.
Get Lots… And Lots… Of Sleep
Much easier said than done I know. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll have every intention of getting some early shut-eye… And still be laying there on your phone scrolling through Instagram 2 hours later. However sleep, along with drinking water, is probably the best way to keep your skin looking its best. Whenever I’ve had a late night, my skin is the first to show it. Thank god for makeup. It’s bailed me out on more occasions than I would like to admit!
So there you have the main ways I get spot free skin. How do you keep yours at bay? Tell me in the comments below!
