The hashtag #AutumnIsComing has been circulating on Twitter over the past few days and each time I see it I squeal a little bit. I’m a HUUUGGGE autumn/winter baby. Always have been, always will be. No one slays an entrance quite as much as A/W, knocking our so-called summer out of the game with leather, dark lips, fur, hot chocolate with marshmallows, cosy nights in and Christmas markets. Oh GAWD I almost hyperventilated writing that. We’re not renowned to have great summers in the UK. It’s tipped it down for pretty much the whole of August, and now September is deciding that we might deserve a bit of sun. Pffft. I’m over it. Gimme those dark evenings, crisp mornings, cable knit jumpers and my absolute favourite… The Christmas countdown. I’m hugely excited for Autumn, and here’s 5 reasons why you should be too…
The Return Of Stranger Things 2
Could there be anything to get you more excited for autumn than the return of one of the most IMMENSE Netflix shows?! Stranger Things 2 lands on your box on Halloween, and it’s enough to have me cancelling all plans for this year. (Not that I really need an excuse to bow out of fancy dress. It’s a no from me…) I absolutely loved the first series, and it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for Eleven and her crew to grace us with their Oscar-worthy performances again. Is there a demogorgon growing inside Will? Have we seen the last of Eleven? What is it that’s so addictive about Eggo waffles? Find out all on 31st October. *Pre-orders 40 tubs of mint chocolate Options hot chocolate*
Summer is great for fun playsuits, pineapple print and kaftans, but then there’s always the impending fear of the… BIKINI. Or to be more specific, THE BIKINI BODY. Some of us spend the summer fretting about our return to the beach and whether we really need that second helping of cheesy fries, which can put a bit of a downer on those three months of the year. (I say “some of us” as I’m definitely not included in that category. You can normally find me for the majority of the summer in a rooftop bar downing sugary cocktails and halfway through someone else’s second portion of fries after I’ve finished my own). Meh to all of this. YES to autumn, eating stodgy food and hiding it all under a big, sassy, furry coat. I live for a winter wardrobe. Layers of leather, fur, cashmere, cable knit. It’s far more versatile and interesting than a basic jumpsuit and denim jacket in July. Oh, and don’t forget to accessorise with a gingerbread latte. #DoItForTheGram.
Cosy Nights In
FINALLY. The season where we don’t need an excuse to actually stay in as it’s nearing sub-zero temperatures outside and we’re “saving” for Christmas presents, AKA spending all our money on Dominos. Queue binge-watching box sets, slankets and heartwarming soups. Double duvets, fluffy socks and cinnamon candles. This one is enough to get you excited for autumn on it’s own, and it’s the one I’m most looking forward to. This month I’ll be moving into my own flat, just in time for my favourite time of year. I can’t wait for nights in with my friends, watching films and chilling on the sofa with a casserole brewing in the slow cooker. It’s technically not hibernating if you’re doing it with co-hibernators, right?
Starbucks Red Cups
Don’t pretend as if you haven’t already thought about red cup season. It’s not officially autumn until Starbucks launch their Christmas drinks, and people get so psyched about them that they have their own official website called Countdown To Red Cups. Autumn is a coffee-lover’s haven, with delicious hot beverages gracing Starbucks all over the country. In the past in the UK we’ve had Fudge Hot Chocolate, Toffee Nut Lattes and Salted Caramel Mochas. Only 67 days until we find out this year’s secret lineup! Last but not least is probably my favourite reason of all to get excited for autumn… And that is of course, the countdown to Christmas. I am the BIGGEST Christmas fanatic. Ever since I was a child I’ve loved the magic of the festive season. The colours, the food, the glitz. Christmas is huge in my family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Harrods and Liberty have already opened up their Christmas shops, festive stock is already starting hit the supermarkets and this year’s must have advent calendars are appearing on my social feeds. Visiting Christmas markets are one of my all-time favourite things to do, and after jetting off to Cologne last December, I’ve just booked flights to Copenhagen for this year. I can’t wait, and can already smell the mulled wine!
